Last Stop

The final resting place of all the interesting, unique or just plain bizarre stuff I find on the internet or in the world.

Tee(s) of the Day: Dungeons & Dragons-themed sports tees by Cody Frisbee.
DND Sports: Where the balls are polyhedral; the refs interpret the rules as they see fit; and the mascots are actual magical beasts to which the losing team is fed.

The problem, of course, is picking which “team” to support. (But I suppose I could always roll a twenty-sider for that!)

He would never have known the horror of really getting what he thought he wanted. He could have spared himself and everybody else the cost of it. If there was a moral to the story of Martin Chatwin, that was it in a nutshell. Sure, you can live out your dreams, but it’ll only turn you into a monster. Better to stay home and do card tricks in your bedroom instead. The Magicians by Lev Grossman
It’s a funny thing about the old gods. You think that just because they’re old they must be difficult to kill. But when the fighting starts, they go down just like anybody else. They aren’t stronger, they’re just older. The Magicians by Lev Grossman

Thank You, Steve Jobs

Thank you, Steve Jobs, for giving me no reason to upgrade my 1st generation iPod touch to the newly released 3rd gen model. I was afraid that if the rumors about the 3rd gen iPod touch gaining the iPhone 3GS camera (with video) had been correct, I would have been compelled to upgrade to the latest model for that feature alone. Instead, I can remain content with my trusty old iPod touch with no shades of envy for the new model.

However, Mr. Jobs, you are pretty cunning in getting my interest piqued in the new iPod nano (5th gen) as a potential new digital video camera instead of a Flip. It seems as though we may have another new iPod yet, even if it is only mostly used to make quick video posts for Facebook (and perhaps other sites). So again, thank you, Steve Jobs, for inevitably tempting me with your products, though not in the way I expected.

All Good Things

Hi-ho hi-ho, it’s back to work I go… after a full week of vacation. It went by as fast as vacation time usually is wont to do, but it was time very well spent.

L and I made it a memorable by hitting PAX (not People Against Xylophones, but Penny Arcade Expo) for the first time this year. The weather in Seattle was marvelous and the convention itself was… well, it was a gamer’s paradise. We didn’t get to do half the things we wanted to (play the Dragon Age: Origins demo, attend Wil Wheaton’s panel, try some new board and roleplaying games) but we still had a blast (being entertained by the Bungie staff and Tim Schafer, taking in the show floor and buying stuff, and playing in a silly casual Magic: the Gathering tournament).

So, vacation’s over and it’ll be at least under year until we hit another PAX, but I’m not too down about it. After all, it’s only two work days to the weekend! (Here’s to planning ahead and taking a mid-week to mid-week vay-kay!)
